Mamow Ahyamowen is collaborating once again with ICES to provide the Indigenous Health Data Training Program. This seven-session online program aims to share knowledge about ICES data with a focus on Indigenous health.

Yantao Zhao is a Data Analyst and comes to Mamow Ahyamowen with a wealth of knowledge and expertise. She joined Jen Walker’s Indigenous health research team and, through partnerships, worked on a wide variety of data-related projects.

The Steering Committee continues to pivot as needed to manage the various priorities during the COVID-19 pandemic. From keeping communities safe, managing coronavirus outbreaks, and coordinating vaccine rollouts in communities, it has certainly been a busy time. Despite these extra priorities, Mamow Ahyamowen continues to move forward.

The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) has released its region-specific report entitled, ‘Learning from Our Ancestors: Mortality Experience of Communities Served by the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority’. The report describes the mortality experience of communities in the James and Hudson’s Bay Region and provides helpful health information for healthcare providers, organizations, and communities to understand the mortality patterns of patients in the region.

In November 2020, Mamow Ahyamowen partnered with ICES to provide the Indigenous Health Data Training Program.

Mamow Ahyamowen is happy to announce that it will collaborate with ICES again to provide the Indigenous Health Data Training Program in autumn 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic was declared on the heels of the 2020 Mamow Ahyamowen in-person planning meeting. A lot has changed locally and globally since that meeting and the Partnership thought it would be important to come together virtually for a planning session in the new COVID-19 environment.

In late 2019, Mamow Ahyamowen prepared and submitted an abstract to present the results from the recent mortality analysis at the University of Toronto Indigenous Health Conference. The conference was scheduled for May 2020 and was going to be held in Niagara Falls (Onguiaahra), Ontario. Due to the pandemic, organizers postponed the conference to December 2020 and shifted delivery to a digital format.
