Indigenous Mentorship Network of Ontario

Our Knowledge Translation Specialist, Maureen, recently presented at the Indigenous Mentorship Network of Ontario’s second annual Summer Institute, which took place at McMaster University from July 15-19. This year’s theme—which is near and dear to us here at Mamow Ahyamowen—was “Knowledge Translation and Making Indigenous Data Meaningful”. The event was open to Indigenous undergraduate and graduate students pursuing applied community-based Indigenous health research.

Students participated in workshops on a wide range of topics, such as Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance, Knowledge Translation, Data Security and Privacy, and Responsible AI. In order to apply their new-found skills and knowledge, they also outlined and proposed knowledge translation plans based on real life First Nations and Métis research projects. These case studies were a meaningful learning opportunity for everyone, including the seasoned researchers in the audience.
