Sharing What We Know About Living a Good Life: Building Foundations in Knowledge Translation
June 2026

Knowledge is most powerful when it is shared in meaningful ways that support communities, inspire action, and improve health and wellbeing.
That was the focus of Sharing What We Know About Living a Good Life: Knowledge Translation Foundations, an interactive workshop delivered in partnership with the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA).
The workshop, delivered by Maureen Gustafson from Mamow Ahyamowen, introduced participants to the foundations of Indigenous Knowledge Translation (IKT), exploring how research and data can be transformed into meaningful information that supports First Nations priorities. Participants learned about IKT concepts, discussed how Indigenous perspectives strengthen the knowledge translation process, and explored practical tools for planning effective IKT activities.
As part of the workshop, participants had the opportunity to apply their learning by developing an IKT plan. This hands-on approach demonstrated how thoughtful planning can help ensure knowledge reaches the people who need it most.
The workshop also reinforced an important message: collecting data is only one part of the journey. Meaningful knowledge translation helps transform information into understanding, and ensures that knowledge is shared in ways that are relevant, accessible, and grounded in community.
Chi-miigwech to SLFNHA for the invitation to work together for this workshop. We look forward to continuing to build capacity and strengthen IKT across Mamow Ahyamowen organizations and communities.
