Mamow Ahyamowen Presents to Indigenous Services Canada

May 2024

We are excited to announce a major milestone for Mamow Ahyamowen. After many years of delay due to the pandemic, we finally had the opportunity to present our work to epidemiologists, data analysts, and others at Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), highlighting our commitment to enhancing First Nations health equity and data sovereignty.

The presentation showcased our work to date, including findings from the mortality analysis. Presenters included Steering Committee members from Matawa First Nations and Weeneebayko Area Health Authority, who shared how beneficial the data and the work of the Alliance have been. It was important for ISC to hear directly from the Steering Committee and to understand the impact this data has made in their organizations.

Although key decision-makers were not present, we thought it was important to talk about ways that ISC could support ongoing First Nations health transformation and data sovereignty. We hope that attendees will share this information with decision-makers moving forward.

We concluded the presentation by offering a glimpse into our upcoming projects, which aim to answer key questions about the health of the communities we serve and to advance First Nations data sovereignty. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our journey. This milestone reaffirms our commitment to supporting regions and communities to use data as a tool for health equity.
