Connecting, Sharing, and Learning at the Approaches to Community Wellbeing Data Conference

Mamow Ahyamowen was pleased to connect with community leaders, health professionals, and partners at the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority’s (SLFNHA), Approaches to Community Wellbeing Data Conference in February.

The event provided an opportunity to engage directly with participants through an interactive booth, which allowed time for conversations about health data, community priorities, and the importance of First Nations-led approaches to data.

The conference also featured three presentations by Maureen Gustafson from the Mamow Ahyamowen team:

  • What’s a Health Data Alliance? Coming Together to Provide the Health Information Communities Need introduced participants to Mamow Ahyamowen, who we are, and how we support First Nations to access data based on their priorities.
  • The Missing Link: Knowledge Translation & Indigenous Data Sovereignty explored why meaningful knowledge translation is essential to achieving Indigenous Data Sovereignty.
  • Visioning Indigenous Data Sovereignty in Kiiwetinoong brought together panelists to discuss opportunities, challenges, and the future of Indigenous Data Sovereignty across the Sioux Lookout region.

These conversations reinforced the importance of working together to strengthen relationships, build capacity, and ensure that health information supports First Nations priorities. We are grateful to SLFNHA for the opportunity to participate and look forward to continuing these important conversations.
