Co interpretation Gathering – Understanding Our Data Together
July 2024
We are happy to share the success of our recent co-interpretation gathering, which marks a significant milestone in our work on the chronic conditions project. Understanding Our Data Together, held in Thunder Bay from July 9th to 11th, brought together Steering Committee members and other delegates from seven of the eleven organizations to collaboratively analyze and provide important context to preliminary data.
This gathering ensured that the way we came to understand the data was guided by the wisdom and knowledge of people living in and working for the various regions and communities supported by Mamow Ahyamowen. The context collected from the gathering will be used to prepare the first draft of the report.
The gathering also garnered interest from Thunder Bay NewsWatch, which broadcasted a short video clip about the event and findings from the mortality analysis.
This gathering also strengthened our commitment to First Nations data sovereignty. The insights and recommendations generated will inform future initiatives, ensuring they are relevant and community-driven.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who gave us their gift of time and shared their expertise and knowledge. This gathering is a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of community-based work. We look forward to continuing this vital work together and sharing the final reports in the months to come.
Finally, we also want to say Chi-Miigwetch to Ingaged! We are so very grateful for their support in planning and running the event. While we focused on the content, they took care of all the details – big and small – that made the experience a positive one.
